Beverly Lemire
Beverly Lemire, DPhil., is a Professor and Henry Marshall Tory Chair in the Department of History & Classics and the Department of Human Ecology at the University of Alberta. Founding director of the Material Culture Institute at the University of Alberta, she teaching in the areas of material culture, the rise of consumer society as well as in the field of gender, with a focus on Britain, the Atlantic World and global trade. Her latest book is entitled The Business of Everyday Life: Gender, Practice and Social Politics in England,(2005). Recent articles include: (co-authored) "East and West: Textiles and Fashion in Early Modern Europe" Journal of Social History 41:4 (June 2008) pp. 887-916 and "Draping the Body and Dressing the Home: The Material Culture of Textiles and Clothes in the Atlantic World, c. 1500-1800" in Karen Harvey, ed., History and Material Culture (London, Routledge, 2009). These works continue her exploration of the transition from traditional to modern society from a comparative perspective.
