Patricia E. Prestwich

Patricia E. Prestwich, Ph.D., is a Professor Emerita in the Department of History and Classics, University of Alberta; She established the first courses on women's history at the university in 1974 and taught them regularly until her recent retirement. She is an expert on alcoholism and on psychiatry in France, with a special interest in women, families, and psychiatry. She has recently published "Female alcoholism in Paris, 1870-1920: the response of psychiatrists and of families," in the journal History of Psychiatry, 14(3), 2003. She also works on French Catholic women politicians after the Second World War, as well as on the role of families in the care of psychologically traumatized French soldiers of the First World War.
